Before We Meet

Recruiter Phone Screen Questions

MY BACKGROUND

Answers to the questions recruiters usually ask first, so we can spend our call on the role.

Q: Can you walk me through your background?

A: I have 8+ years at Amazon, Salesforce, and Truepill, and I have worked in HR since 2020. At Amazon I investigated disability accommodation and leave cases. At Truepill, a digital pharmacy, I built the employee relations function from scratch. At Salesforce I was an HR Advisor supporting employees across four regions. The common thread is documentation and compliance in regulated settings, and I am now moving that work into pharmaceutical quality, drug safety, and regulatory roles.

WHY I AM LOOKING

Q: Why are you job searching?

A: My position at Salesforce was eliminated in June 2025 in an organizational reduction. Since then I have been studying toward life sciences, with coursework in regulatory compliance, clinical trials operations, and pharmacy technician fundamentals, alongside university classes in biology, anatomy, and healthcare ethics. I am ready to put that to work.

WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR

Q: What kind of role is the right fit?

A: Roles in pharmaceutical quality assurance, regulatory compliance, drug safety, and pharmacovigilance, plus process automation in healthcare. I also welcome roles in employee relations, HR operations, and compliance. I am open to permanent, contract, and hourly work, including entry level roles in pharma.

PAY

Q: What are your salary expectations?

A: It depends on the scope and level of the role, and I look at the full package. Tell me the range you have budgeted and I will tell you plainly whether it works for me.

WORK AUTHORIZATION

Q: Are you authorized to work in the United States?

A: Yes. I am a US citizen and do not need sponsorship for US roles.

Q: Are you authorized to work in Australia?

A: Not yet. I am planning a move to Queensland and would need employer sponsorship. I am available for video interviews now and comfortable working Australian Eastern hours.

REMOTE, HYBRID, AND ON SITE

Q: Can you work remotely? Are you open to an office?

A: I have worked fully remote for years, across several time zones. I am open to hybrid depending on the role and location. For roles in Queensland, I am happy to talk through on site expectations as part of the relocation.

AVAILABILITY

Q: When can you start?

A: For US roles, within two weeks of an offer. For Australian roles, as soon as sponsorship and relocation are arranged.

MY QUESTIONS FOR YOU

Q: Do you have any questions for us?

A: Always. I will ask how the team is structured, what problem you most need this person to solve, and what a good first 90 days looks like.

QUESTIONS FROM HIRING MANAGERS

These are the questions I expect after the first call, answered the way I would answer them in the room.

MY DIRECTION

Q: You have an HR background. How does that carry over to quality, drug safety, or regulatory work?

A: The work underneath is the same. At Amazon I reviewed 100 to 130 disability and leave cases a week, gathered the evidence, and wrote a determination that was peer reviewed and then manager reviewed. That is intake, assessment, documentation, and quality review, which is the shape of a drug safety case or a quality record. At Truepill, a digital pharmacy, I ran HIPAA compliance reviews for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Q: Why are you moving out of HR?

A: My best work has always been where compliance, risk, and documentation meet. Pharma is where that work matters most, because the records protect patients. My long term goal is a Doctor of Pharmacy, and I want to build my career inside the industry while I study.

Q: You are moving into life sciences, but this is an HR role. Why are you applying?

A: Because I am good at this work and I still enjoy it. Employee relations, leave and accommodations, and HR operations are what I have done for years, and I can contribute from the first week. My move into pharma is a long term plan that I am building through study, and it does not change the care I bring to the role in front of me. When you hire me for HR work, you get my full attention on HR work.

Q: Do you have experience with FDA regulations or GxP?

A: Not on the job yet, and I would rather say so plainly. My regulatory experience is in employment law and health privacy: ADA, FMLA, and HIPAA. I am studying regulatory compliance and clinical trials operations now. What I bring on day one is the discipline those frameworks depend on: follow the procedure, document as you go, and keep a complete evidence trail.

HOW I WORK

Q: Can you give an example of a time you found a gap and fixed it?

A: At Truepill, employees were raising concerns with HR verbally, with no consistent record of what they reported. I designed a submission form so every case had a clean, documented starting point. I also replaced a disorganized spreadsheet with a color coded case tracker in ClickUp that showed every case status at a glance. Leadership could then find case information without scheduling a meeting to ask. I brought the problem and the fix together.

Q: What does "audit ready" mean to you?

A: A record you can hand to a reviewer without preparing it first. It is organized, complete, dated, and tells a clear story of what happened and why. At Amazon I backed every determination with a complete evidence trail, and at Salesforce I kept employee records accurate across about 125 Workday transactions a week.

Q: Have you handled sensitive or protected information?

A: Yes, daily. I have worked with medical documentation for leave and accommodation cases, investigation files, and protected health information in a pharmacy setting. I share it only with the people who need it, and I am careful about what goes into any AI tool.

Q: How do you handle high volume and competing deadlines?

A: I keep a tracker, work the oldest and riskiest items first, and say early when a deadline is at risk. At Amazon I cleared 45,000 outstanding tasks in my first four months in a new department and processed 100 to 130 cases a week within deadline. At Salesforce I handled 10 to 20 employee inquiries a day, and more than 50 at peak, while holding satisfaction scores of 4.5 to 5.0 out of 5.0.

Q: Have you worked across teams such as Legal, Quality, or vendors?

A: Regularly. At Amazon I partnered with Corporate Legal on ADA and FMLA questions and worked with the Disability and Leave Services Quality team, third party leave administrators, and vendors to resolve escalated cases. At Salesforce I supported the LATAM, M&A, and Legal teams during the integration of three acquired companies. I am comfortable turning a compliance requirement into plain guidance.

TOOLS AND LOGISTICS

Q: What tools do you use for tracking and reporting?

A: Workday for HR transactions, Jira and Confluence for work tracking and documentation, ClickUp for case tracking, and Excel, including pivot tables, for reporting. I also build my own low code apps and dashboards, which you can see on this site. I learn new systems quickly.

Q: You are in Georgia. What hours can you work?

A: I am on Eastern time and have worked remotely across several time zones for years. I can adjust my hours for a team in another US time zone. For Australian roles I am comfortable working Australian Eastern hours.

Q: Are you open to relocation?

A: Within the US I am looking for remote roles. I am planning a move to Queensland, Australia, and I am open to relocating there with employer sponsorship.
